Getting started with Paperbrief
Enable โ upload โ chat. Should take about 5 minutes.
1. Sign up (if you haven't)
app.kashilabs.ai/signup (opens in a new tab) โ see Accounts & teams for the org-grouping rules.
2. Enable Paperbrief for your organisation
Cloudbrief is on by default for every new org. Paperbrief is opt-in โ your platform admin (the master owner) needs to toggle it:
- Sign in as the platform admin.
- Workspace โ Platform admin โ click your organisation.
- Find the Product access card.
- Toggle Paperbrief on.
If you're not the platform admin, email manish.gaud@bhavitech.com asking to enable Paperbrief for your org name.
3. Switch to Paperbrief
Click the logo dropdown in the top-left of the app. Paperbrief now appears in the list โ click it. You land on an empty library.
4. Upload your first document
In the Documents sidebar (left side of the screen), click Upload. Pick a PDF, DOCX, TXT, or MD up to 25 MB.
The doc enters the library with status pending โ processing โ ready. The status pill auto-refreshes every 5 seconds; ready usually takes 10โ60 seconds depending on size and whether OCR is needed.
For a scanned PDF (image-only, no text layer), processing takes longer โ Claude vision OCRs each page, capped at 50 pages.
5. Chat with the document
Once status is ready:
- Tick the checkbox next to the document in the sidebar.
- The chat panel on the right activates.
- Type a question and press Enter (Shift+Enter for newline).
The answer streams in. Citations appear above the answer as small pills (Document title ยท chunk N ยท page M). Each citation is a chunk the model actually saw.
6. Start a multi-document chat
Select more than one document (multiple checkboxes), then ask a question that spans them. The answer cites whichever chunks across all selected docs were most relevant.
You can change the document selection mid-conversation โ past messages keep the attribution they were sent with, future messages use the new selection.
7. Revisit a conversation later
Every chat is saved automatically under the org. The Conversations section in the sidebar lists them, sorted by most-recent. Click any to load its full message history with citations intact.
